Referring to exercises in HW

Hello, I was wondering whether or not it is okay to refer to exercises from Dummit & Foote in the homework without writing the solution to the specific exercise.

As a dummy example, let's say I want to use exercise 3.3.4. Do I need to provide a solution to the exercise in order to use it in the homework? I understand that it might not be allowed if the exercise in the book and the problem in the hw are the same, but that's the rules when the problem can be solved using the statement in an exercise?

If you want to use an exercise... you have to solve the exercise... :)
Otherwise there will be to many exercise that I cannot give. Plus, if I take the exercise from the book, I know that the difficulty will be consistent... I can make up really mean exercises ):-)
